(Senior) Technology Transfer Manager (Physical Sciences) Ref 106 (now filled)

The Technology Transfer Group has an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to join its highly motivated and successful team in Oxford. We are looking for a (Senior) Technology Transfer Manager who can focus on commercialising the outcomes of the University’s research in physical sciences.

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Working with and influencing world-leading academics to commercialise new university technologies in the areas of engineering, physics, materials, computer science or mathematics
  • Identifying commercial strategies for transferring technologies to industry, including marketing to potential end-users
  • Negotiating appropriate licensing contracts, in conjunction with legal experts
  • Managing the formation of a spin-out company and running programmes that involve a variety of interdependent projects
  • Managing and administering post-deal activity.

The successful candidate will ideally have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant physical science or an MBA with a degree in a physical science plus at least several years’ commercial experience in industry. They should also have the ambition to achieve results, along with a commitment to integrity and sound commercial judgement.

The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate proven competence in:

  • Grasping technical concepts quickly, and translating these into commercially viable proposals
  • Working effectively with key stakeholders, assertively influencing them and where appropriate showing tenacity and persistence in business development situations
  • Deploying excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Successfully negotiating and licensing commercial contracts with relevant industry sectors
  • Working successfully within a close-knit team
  • Managing a large portfolio of complex projects to a successful commercial conclusion

We are looking for a Technology Transfer Manager who can focus on commercialising technologies developed at the University and predominantly from the Physics and Engineering, and Computer Science Departments including copyright software and patented inventions. The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Working with and influencing world-leading academics to commercialise new university-developed software and technologies, predominantly from the fields of engineering, mathematics, statistics, physical and computer sciences and e-research
  • Identifying and executing new commercial strategies for transferring technologies to industry
  • Marketing software and related technologies to potential end-users
  • Negotiating appropriate licensing contracts, in conjunction with legal experts
  • Supporting the formation of spin-out companies

Supporting post-deal activity, including renewals to licences.

The successful candidate will have an engineering, computer sciences, physics or mathematics degree or equivalent, with a PhD desirable but not essential. However, it is essential that they will have a good appreciation of research and development in a field related to physical sciences and preferably of the development, application and use of software gained either in a commercial or technical role. With the ambition to achieve results, along with a commitment to integrity and sound commercial judgement, the successful candidate will also need to demonstrate proven competence in:

  • Grasping technical concepts quickly, and translating these into commercially viable proposals
  • Working effectively with key stakeholders, assertively influencing them and where appropriate showing tenacity and persistence in business development situations
  • Deploying excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Negotiating appropriate licensing contracts, in conjunction with legal experts
  • Managing the formation of a spin-out company and running programmes that involve a variety of interdependent projects
  • Managing and administering post-deal activity.

The successful candidate will ideally have a PhD* (*or equivalent) in a relevant biomedical, life, informatics or computer science or an MBA* with a degree* in the medical technology space. We are now looking for two highly motivated Consultants who have the ability to play a key part in growing and developing the Isis Enterprise Group through profitable sales and delivery of services and products. These exciting roles will report to a Senior or Managing Consultant and will involve working with other Consultants in teams to deliver on business development and consultancy activities spanning the biotechnology, life sciences, information communications, engineering and other advanced technology fields.

The position of the Consultant will be responsible for:

  • Assessment and evaluation of new technologies through primary and secondary market research
  • Commercialisation of new technologies through international partnering, licensing and creating new business entities
  • Managing IP, including patenting and strategic development of IP for investment
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with commercial organisations, identifying opportunities for collaboration leading to new business

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in a physical or life sciences-related discipline and a desire to work in a fast-paced consultancy environment, delivering on multiple projects concurrently. Previous consultancy experience is not a requirement as long as they possess enthusiasm, positivity and an appetite for learning and personal development alongside a desire to achieve results. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate proven competence in:

  • Customer-focused, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to achieve tight delivery deadlines
  • Understanding and fulfilling stakeholder requirements
  • Communicating effectively with a wide range of people and organisations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and very strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Working effectively as part of a high performing team
