Marketing and Communications Manager Ref 105 (now filled)

We now have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Marketing & Communications Manager to join the Marketing team.

This role is about promoting and marketing an even greater awareness of the successful outcomes of Oxford University’s innovation activities, and in particular Oxford University Innovation’s achievements in commercialising IP and expertise from the University. Creating appropriate content, managing the media, building relationships with journalists, delivering clear and focused communication, and PR activities are a key part of this role.

The key responsibilities of the role include;

  • Engaging with content contributors and media professionals to build and maintain positive coverage
  • Building and maintaining presence on digital marketing channels
  • Managing networking organisation membership and communications
  • Proactively working across the business to assist and encourage staff to provide content for promotion through the media.

The successful candidate will have a science degree (or equivalent), and experience of writing both for professional scientific audiences and generalist media.

Preferably holding a further degree and/or business qualification such as an MBA, they will also have experience of managing and influencing external clients, communication management, and digital marketing (web, email campaigns, social media).

The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate proven competence in the following:

  • Ability to work effectively with journalists, and to influence them assertively
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills and attitudes, with drive and initiative to make things happen
  • Ability to build credibility and rapport with senior people and decision-makers from external clients
  • Delivering effective PR and media projects
  • Web management: methodical approach to capturing needs, then prioritising and tracking development within budget.

Portfolio Manager Ref: 098 (now filled)

Oxford University Innovation Ltd is the highly successful research and technology commercialisation company owned by the University of Oxford. Working with over four thousand of the world’s brightest minds, we help them translate their ideas and expertise into projects that make a tangible difference to businesses and governments through technology licensing and the formation of spin-out companies. OSEM manages the University's shareholdings in its portfolio of 80 spin-out companies and seeks ways of maximising the value of its equity stakes. In fulfilling this role, OSEM calls on its own expertise, its extensive networks of contacts in the financial, commercial and scientific worlds and financial resources which are invested on behalf of the University of Oxford.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a charismatic and motivated Portfolio Manager to join this team and support the Director of OSEM in the development and delivery of value to the University from its shareholding in spin-out companies.

  • The key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Obtaining and monitoring information submitted by spin-outs and creating advisory reports to enable the University to be aware of the value of its assets, and of opportunities to invest further capital
  • Maintaining a seamless approach to spin-out activities by proactively collaborating with teams across the business
  • Acting as a spin-out company Board level observer/director, where appropriate, and working closely with Boards to build sustainable business platforms
  • Acting as an ambassador for Oxford University Innovation and the University of Oxford, raising its profile within the investment and industry audiences.

The successful candidate will have a science degree (or equivalent), preferably a further science degree and/or business qualification such as an MBA, and ideally industrial and managerial experience in a life sciences or a technology business. They will also possess enthusiasm, positivity and an appetite for learning and personal development alongside a desire to achieve results. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate proven competence in the following:

  • Project management: conscientious, detail-oriented with the ability to prioritise workloads and multiple projects
  • Finance reporting: equipped to handle the financial aspects of reporting valuations using conventional valuation techniques
  • Influencing: a team player able to influence and engender respect from a wide range of stakeholders
  • Analysis: designing, developing and critiquing business strategies based on sound judgement and good analysis
  • Weighing up alternative courses of action, making firm decisions and persuading others.
